MEET SCOTT
Scott Teagarden
PT, SSPT
As one of Thrive’s foremost spinal dysfunction experts, Scott treats a wide variety of spinal issues. He employs a dynamic, innovative and tailored approach in finding the root cause of dysfunction. Scott is a Schroth Certified Scoliosis Therapist and has advanced training in spinal and extremity care.
CLINICAL APPROACH
When it comes to working with his patients, Scott strongly believes in the power of listening and honoring the patient’s commitment to his or her therapy journey. He enjoys the “deep dive” on their symptoms, their concerns, and their everyday environments to better understand how to work with them. With Scott, you won’t get the standard physical therapy paradigms foisted upon you. You’ll get an invested partner who will apply evidence-based approaches in creative, tailored programs aimed at achieving early “wins” on the road to recovery and optimization of function in the treatment area that brought you to us.
Scott’s early career began at the Kessler Institute’s neurologically-based rehabilitation program. There, he specialized in Neurodevelopmental Technique (NDT) and Proprioceptive Neuromuscular Facilitation (PNF) for the treatment of individuals with spinal cord injury, stroke and head trauma.
From there he began a career-long specialization in orthopedics and sports medicine, applying the principles of PNF to the neuromuscular and mechanical intricacies encountered in orthopedic patients to facilitate their return to activity. He also adapted his early NDT experiences to analyze and treat posture and movement impairments based on kinesiology and biomechanics.
Scott further advanced his expertise in PNF in continuing education through the Institute of Physical Art. This course work extended the use of this intervention into the realm of joint mobility through the concept of functional joint mobilization. This, combined with the neuromuscular and motor control elements of PNF, has remained a bedrock of Scott’s practice.
Scott is a certified Schroth Scoliosis Physical Therapist. He employs the manual interventions of soft tissue, joint and visceral mobilization techniques to enhance the transforming effects of Schroth neuromuscular 3-dimensional scoliosis care.
CONTINUING EDUCATION & BEYOND
Scott has remained devoted to career development for over 35 years attending numerous continuing education courses by the leading institutions and educators in the field (including McKenzie Institute, Maitland Technique, NAIOMT, Barral Institute, Jeff Ellis, Jenny McConnell and Mariano Rocabado). Scott attends the HSS Sports Medicine Symposium and the Columbia University Orthopedics Non-Operative Treatment of Scoliosis every year to keep abreast of advances in these fields.

WHAT CLIENTS ARE SAYING:
“I worked with Scott after my reconstructive knee surgery and had a wonderful experience. He was caring, attentive, deeply knowledgeable—not to mention hilarious & fun. I also worked with Tamar during my rehabilitation, and she is a wizard! Both of them had a deep understanding of the root causes of pain in my knee, and I walked out of every session feeling lighter, stronger, and better able to stretch/work my body on my own at home.”
