Tamar Amitay MSPT Principal

Tamar Amitay MSPT, Principal graduated from New York University in 1986 graduating with academic honors. She completed her Advanced Masters in Clinical Orthopedics from Touro College in 2003. This degree furthered her knowledge and skills in advanced manual and orthopedic assessment of complex musculoskeletal dysfunctions. Ms. Amitay is a highly regarded physical therapist recognized within the New York City medical community as a remarkable clinician, diagnostician and healer. Tamar has over 23 years of clinical experience in rehabilitation (NYU Rusk Institute and JFK Medical Center) and outpatient private practice.

Tamar’s specialty is in the treatment of cervical and lower back pain including herniated discs, scoliosis, sciatica, spinal instabilities, rib torsions, radiating pain, stenosis, and cervicogenic headaches. She has extensive experience in treating post surgical, orthopedic dysfunctions and sports medicine injuries of the shoulder, knee, ankle and hip. She treats a variety of woman’s health issues, including pre and post partum injury, and post mastectomy.

Tamar employs a biomechanical and neuromuscular approach to treatment based on post graduate work with the Institute of Physical Art, the North American Academy of Orthopedic Manual Therapy, Kinetic Control and the Herman and Wallace Pelvic Rehabilitation Institute. Tamar utilizes clinical reasoning and the most current cutting edge evidence based research to identify a specific diagnosis and prescribe individualized treatment and therapeutic exercise.

In addition to her clinical work, Tamar teaches at Touro College. She has also lectured on exercise for the elderly, fall prevention, and pre and post natal physical therapy and exercise training. Tamar also is an instructor with Integrated Manual Therapy Solutions, a nationally renowned education company specializing in osteopathic manual therapy techniques and neuromuscular reeducation.

Ms. Amitay’s philosophy is to return her patients to their maximum potential quickly and safely and empower them with both knowledge and self treatment programs tailored to meet their specific needs.

Tamar is a member of the American Physical Therapy Association as well as the Private Practice and Women’s Health Sections.
