Susan Blankensop MSPT received her Master of Science in Physical Therapy from Columbia University in 2002. She spent 18 years as a professional dancer, and has been a licensed massage therapist for over 20 years working with the dance community and the general public. She brings her dedication to the care of the performing artist to her work as a manual physical therapist. Susan keeps abreast of the latest interventions through extensive coursework with the Institute for Physical Art and in Dance Medicine. She utilizes her advanced training in manual techniques including myofascial release joint mobilization, postural retraining, and movement education in her treatment approach.
Her experiences in dance physical therapy include a world tour with Mikail Baryshnikov and the White Oak Group and a solo tour with Mr. Baryshnikov. Susan has been touring with the Merce Cunningham Dance Company as one of its principal physical therapists. She has toured with them in New Hampshire as well as Paris, Nimes, Bruges, Belgium and Toulouse, France. In addition to her work at Thrive and with the Merce Cunningham Dance Company, she has her own massage therapy practice in Soho.
